Well I knew it wouldn’t be long before there was a t.v show about the lifestyle. If you missed all the hype, let me fill you in. On Thursday night, the show “Swingtown” aired in a prime time spot!. The show takes place in the 70’s in suburbia America and surrounds what appears to be an average, conservative American family.

During the course of the show, the couple is about to leave their long time neighborhood and friends behind for a bigger house and more upper class neighborhood. It was then their neighbors stop by to give them a house warming gift and invite them to a “party”. Little did the couple know that it was a swingers party.

Right before they get ready to leave, the old neighbors show up at the door unexpectedly. If you are guessing what happened next, then you are probably right. The neighbors join them in going to the party. On arriving at the party and mingling with other guests, the wife is taken for a tour of the house, where she is given a “lude” and is told about their new neighbors open marriage and how wonderful it is.

You can pretty much guess what happened after that. For a first show, it was pretty good. I think the reason for it being so predictable was that there are many that don’t understand or ever heard of swingers or swinging. But I am giving this show a thumbs up for many reasons. For one, kudos to CBS for having the courage to air this show. Two, it depicted swingers in a good light, not some seedy group of followers. (did you read my last blog?) Three, it had humor, a plot and a few surprises, much more then I can say for most of the shows now on t.v.

Will this show compete with sex in the city?. It might, if the producers continue down the same path as they started, that being, keeping it simple, fun and putting the viewer in the eyes of the actor. Lets face it, there are some who will, there are some who wouldn’t, there are some that want to. I think this show brings all together and may even help those interested in the lifestyle get a better picture of it, even though it is made for t.v. Did you watch the show?
